Default Christmas Projects

I've been working on a few Christmas projects. I have been making stuff for the most part with no one in particular in mind and waiting to decide later what I think they might like. The first of the cutting boards is an idea I thought might work and I hadn't seen this particular inlay design. I did get the sliding dovetail idea from Jerry Work's site and he was kind enough to explain the glue up (or in this case, lack thereof). The grapes are purple heart and the stem is ebony. The board is some nice figured maple I picked up at my local woodcraft and the ends are walnut.

Nice. How long did it take to get the sliding dovetails figured out? Did you do it with a side mounted router like Jerry?

I have a Leigh jig that worked ok. It is still a lot of trial and error for the tails but patience helps dial it in. Once it is right, the rest are easy.

The next one was inspired from a fine Woodworking article. It is made from cherry and the bands are wedge and padauk.

More Jerry Work inspired boards:
Figured maple with Padauk ends. There was a long nasty knot that I chipped out and filled with turquoise inlace.

One more:

this one has a shot of the feet. All of these sliding dovetail boards are attached in the center by a dowel of the same wood species. I used a doweling jig for some but turned a few of them on the lathe

Last but not least, I have a backup supply of emergency gifts with wrapping paper close at hand (excuse me, I'll be right back...).

Very nice work. Jerry is quite inspirational.

On my list of upcoming projects inspired by Jerry is a Rose Engine. After I build one, I will have something to tinker on well into my dotage.

Those are beautiful. You are so far ahead of me.....

I like the idea of a stash of gifts, I think I will try putting some away.
