Default Birdhouses - Simple

Have made many a birdhouse the past 25 years.
Some high end. Most simple.
The past 5 years have had the luxury of a bucket lift.
That means hanging them as high as 50'.
Problem with all despite the mounting height is repair/ cleaning.
There is debate about cleaning out the old nest each year.
I kinda get to it every other year.
The tree shown got the oak wilt 2 years ago. I left the skeleton which should stand for many years.
I was tempted to carve it or get creative but my current busy schedule only allows fast basic birdhouses.
Note the feeders in the center.

Stay tuned.

I've made a number of boxes, and agree that taking them down for cleaning is a pain. My most recent design uses a French cleat to hold the box to the wall, and a big threaded knob (Axminster Star Knobs - Knobs & Handles - Hardware & Fittings - Fixing, Gluing & Finishing | Axminster Tools & Machinery) to hold both the lid on and the box to the fixed part of the cleat.

It means I don't need to struggle with a screwdriver when I'm at the top of a ladder, I just have to undo a single knob and then lift the box down.

Before church:
cut some roofs - 9" x 9" - bandsaw - 3mm alupanel - aluminum both sides and a solid poly center - bending on a brake - salvaged from old real estate sign
.
After church:
lost a little time - blood on 4 or 5 Systainers

Went out last night for wood and TLC from a nurse I dated.
Morning day light shows (10) common pine boards from Lowes.
I could have used scrap plywood from real estate signs.
I have about 60 used but clean 4' x 8' 5-7 layer 3'4" plywood signs.
I prefer super clean wood and $40 is cheap. I wanted the Western Red? Cedar but it was triple the price. It wasn't much to look at either, at least Lowes version so that decision was easy.
Our local Wood Worker Shop has a really nice mill and wood selection for the serious woodworker, cedars included. Aromatic or Western Red. Maybe next time, foe this quick and dirty project, home center lumber will have to suffice. Bless me father for I have sinned.....

Pine in my forest canopy turns ugly in a short time and no bird has ever complained.

All that bleeding reminds me of when I was on Plavix. The lightest nick would bleed for 10+ minutes. I was only on it for a year and I was glad when that was over. The one anecdotal benefit: my lumbar pain was totally gone while on it and resumed shortly after I was off it. I told the Dr. and she asked if I wanted back on and I said "no," because of the bleeding.

yeah. At 53 I start worrying about stuff.
Those photos were seconds afterward. It was the biggest gush I've ever had.
Taped a large towel around it and kept working of course.
Got the poles down. Large sign for sale.

some progress.
Roughed out on cad. Print that and take into wood shop.
I already know old fashioned drafting and sketching.
This step: Rough out pieces

Parts on stair landing are cleats to hang and hinged bottoms, the bubble gum pink colored part.

Wow! You're in serious production mode! I love using the single piece to make two different bird houses. Nice layout!
