Default Re: Split Top Saw Bench

RONWEN,
The gap is a little more than 1 1/2" and seems to work ok. I didn't want it to be too close so that I don't have to worry about hitting the sides with the saw. I might even make it a little bigger. The holdfasts are working alright now but the wood used is too soft and the holes will undoubtedly get bigger. If this design holds up I will make one out of some kind of hardwood. I guess I could also just glue and screw some hardwood blocks underneath this one to reinforce the holdfast holes.

Nice bench! I'd like a pair of those with a little curve built in for sawing out boat planks. Seriously, that's a useful design.
