Default Finally completed

I finally completed the Pennsylvania Chest on Chest that I have been working on (and off, and on again) for almost a year. The plans for this piece of furniture appear in "Glen Huey's Illustrated Guide to Building Period Furniture" available from Popular Woodworking.

The piece is made with Curly Maple on the front (and all the feet) and Soft Maple on the sides. The curly maple drawer fronts are veneered onto maple boards (approx 1/8 " veneer) in order to get a more consistent appearance.

The finish began with water based Aniline dye stain, followed by an application of boiled linseed oil and a sealing coat of shellac. A coating of glaze was applied and wiped off (to simulate the passage of time). Four thin coats of shellac were sprayed on, and rubbed out with 0000 steel wool. Finally, two applications of Renaissance paste wax followed by light buffing brought the finish to its current state.

Now that this one is done, I can get started on the telescope and equatorial mount that have been in the planning stages for more than a year.

Charles

Very nice work Charles. Would love to see a few more close-up shots.

You should be proud of a year's work!

Is this for your home, a client, or friend?

Bravo
Agree, more pictures, closer, higher resolution . . . I want the glossy details!
Just thinking of what you have invested in hardware alone makes my wallet pinch.

Looks fantastic! I agree with others you have to post WAY more pictures than just the tease you have.
PS I have a Glen Huey DVD on making a highboy which I like very much, and after seeing your piece I just bought his book on Ebay too!

Wow, Charles! There's a lot of really tricky work hidden in there that most people (i.e. non-woodworkers) would never appreciate. I agree with those posting earlier: show us more pictures so we can give you more kudos for your incredible craftsmanship!

I agree with Poto, since I've begun doing woodworking I look at pieces and have a much greater appreciation for the work that went into it.
I especially love your finish, beautiful! I've got so much to learn...

This one is for me!

I organized the pictures I placed on Flickr, and added some comments. They should be available to the public, at this point. Here is a link:

Pennsylvania Chest on Chest - a set on Flickr

You should be able to see 19 pictures there. Let me know if there are any problems.

That is beautiful! You could store over 150 Festool T-shirts in there...
