Default Maloof inspired rocking chair and stool

I don't remember how I found this forum as I don't have any Festools. But I do like the work that I see here. I took a 2 week intensive shop class to learn how to build this type of chair as I have been a fan of Sam Maloof for years. I never dreamed I could do this but the craftsman I learned from was very very good. I like to rock with my feet up so I wanted to make a stool that fit the design of the chair using the same type of joints. It works great. I was going to inlay a cushion into the top but decided against it as the cherry wood is to nice to cover up. I'm looking forward to the trip to Sam's shop in April. I live about 45 min away.

Yeah, I could do that with my Festool circular saw and guide rail.

NOT

Amazingly complex curves in there. It'd be a nightmare to try to model in CAD. Not many Festools would be helpful either.

Are the rockers themselves laminated? They seem to have a dark strip in common.

You can probably thank Google and Poto for leading you to this place.

Tim, that's one of the best Maloof-inspired rockers I've seen. You managed to capture the grace and lithe form that Maloof did. I love the shaping of the arms - actually all of it! And the racing stripes in the laminations are classic Maloof.

How did you do the back splats/supports? Are they cut from a solid piece, bent, or laminated?

Nice work!

P.S. Buy more Festools!

Tim

That is a sweet job, thanks for the post! Now, a small favor? How about editing that second pic so we can really appreciate your craftsmanship without standing on our ears!
