Thanks so much, John!! Yep - it's one of those birthdays divisible by 5. Had a fun dinner last night with some friends, and have been lazy today.

Awfully nice of them to have a national holiday on my birthday, don't you think?

Happy Birthday Peter,

I sent twice the gifts I sent last year. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Peter. So you're the old national speed limit. Now they've upped it so you have something else to shoot for. Hope you enjoy the day.

Yep - the old national speed limit. Not that I ever drove that slowly!

Yes - thanks for the excessive gifts, Rutager. You're right - it was twice as much as last year!

Isn't there an old song that goes, "Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'..."?

Peter,

Nothing from nothing, I don't know, I'm not very good at math.

I rode with Peter a couple times and I'll vouch that speed limits are just a suggestion for him!

Back to the shop, yup I found a bunch of tools in my basement and sure enough they work if you plug them in or run them across wood- who would have thought?

Happy birthday Peter.

I am convinced that woodworkers get better and better as we age - at least at some things

Definitely, Jesse! I'm much better at pretending that I'm better than I was.

Happy Birthday, Peter!!! Seafood for dinner? Crab cakes for desert? With a (few) candles? LOL! What more could an Oceanographer ask for?

The big dinner was last night, Alex. Here's the menu:

Pre-dinner: lemon with vodka, mint and ginger smoothies. Assorted Japanese crackers.

Appetizer: Flaked smoked trout with home-pickled Bermuda onions formed into a cylinder, dressed pea sprouts, and a chive-dill oil, topped with poached quail eggs. Champagne.

Entree: Home-made porcini and goat cheese tortellini with peas in a roasted vegetable broth, with grated parmesan and fried sage leaves. California Meritage.

Dessert: Sharon's spectacular chocolate cake with chocolate ganache icing and a raspberry-blueberry syrup that I made.

Burp!
