Great article, Rutager! I'm totally inspired to do some of that inlay banding, though I don't imagine I could ever do it as well or as easily as you do.

I particularly liked the gratuitous pics of Craig's Bowclamp cauls, the HP6v2, the DSS-6, and the CT-14 (?) - the CS-12 commemorative tool.

Who did the line drawings of the angled inlay?

Great article, Rutager! To think we worked in the presence of greatness at the WIA shows! I only got my magazine today - I guess the government mules don't run quite as fast in these parts.

It makes me want to have more soles.

Peter,

Robert Lang from PW did the illustrations and I think they are fantastic and very helpful in explaining the process- if a picture is worth a thousand words, an illustration must be worth two thousand.

I was very happy that I was able to show the tools that I actually use to make the inlays.

Alex,

Yes, you were amongst greatness; Peter, Masood, Paul-Marcel and across the aisle in Cinci, Fred!

Best,
Rutager

Jesse,

Here's a picture of the box that I'm putting the molding on- still in progress:

Rutager,
That is one cool box! The ornate mouldings set off the very naturalistic burl veneer wonderfully. Looks like a museum piece.

And it would hold a lot of bacon, too!

Randy,

I already have a place to store bacon- born with it in fact.

Thanks Jesse.

Nice work, Rutager. If that's for the BCTW contest, you've raised the bar!

Alex,

Actually it was for LAST years guild show, I'll get it finished for the next one.

The BCTW contest will need to be JMP focused, so meaning that you'll need to take advantage of thin kerfs and small details. This box has only the moldings cut by the JMP. The rest of the box is too big to be cut on the saw. Although, my entry may have some burl veneer on it!

Best,
Rutager
