Default Happy 4th

Hope everyone stays safe and has an enjoyable day.

And since today is the 3rd, heed this....

Don't ruin your fourth by drinking a fifth on the third.

Thanks, Colin! I'll have to get my daughter to figure out the fractions there. But I'm guessing that our planned margarita testing will still get us by. Plus, we're walking...

Have a great one.

P.S. Happy belated Canada Day (July 1).

It'll be a pretty quiet 4th out here on the high plains. Fireworks are banned everywhere due to the drought, fire danger and high winds.

Our area is very dry as well. Athens watered the grass well prior to having their blastoff on June 30th. The reason for the date change was due to a scheduling conflict.

So Peter, did you witness the great fireworks fail in SD last night?

Unfortunately I missed that, Alex. I just read about it in the paper. There were lots of other shows in SD - we watched one from La Jolla from our friend's back yard, seeing the explosions through the needles of a big pine tree. It was delightful. Nice cool evening, no biting insects, no traffic, and a belly full of hotdogs and margaritas.

We were in Silverton, OR and they had fireworks on the 3rd (apparently a tradition there at the Oregon Gardens). They were right behind where we were staying and we had a great view from our bed.

Then on the 4th we went to a friend's place that looks out over the entire valley. We could see a dozen communities from there and they all had fireworks, so we got to see several. Small towns are the best on the 4th!

Especially when all the fireworks go off at once!

Trust me, some of the small ones are loud. When the Gardens set theirs off, I thought I was out at Zulu range at Camp Pendleton. But then again, they didn't do it all at once. It allows everyone to get to bed earlier. After all, the Grand Finale just got bigger..............
