I would have LOVED your company today, John. It would have been perfect if you could have been here.

I just had one of the worst steaks of my life at a steakhouse near my airport hotel. There are so many morals there, I don't know where to begin.

The one upside: I had 50 cl of a pleasant Beaujolais with dinner. Nice buzz to go to sleep to...

Pray that the raw steak had nothing seriously bacterial growing on it...

Are you sure the steak was beef, Peter? I've heard other species are common in France.

Beautiful pictures, Laurie. Thanks!

I'm at the boarding gate in Charles de Gaulle, so with luck I'll be back in the US in 10 hours or so. I've been chatting with a very nice young woman from Oregon who is doing a giant bent-wood egg for an art project here in France. We've had a great discussion about bending and joinery.

I seem to have survived the steak. It gives me shivers just thinking about it...

So the saga continues...

Yesterday (though it seems weeks ago), I finally got on a transatlantic flight from Paris. It was supposed to land in Washington Dulles. It did - eventually. Apparently the head winds were so strong that (get this) they had to stop to refuel in Bangor, Maine. That lovely little stop ensured that I missed the last flight to San Diego.

So, after standing in lines for about an hour, United got me a hotel and gave me a dinner coupon. The hotel is great - a Westin. And the food coupon? It was the generous sum of - get this - $6. Yep. Didn't even cover the tip. Sheesh!

Now it's 4:30 local time, and my body's so discombobulated that I can't sleep any more. Gonna be a long day.

But with any luck, I'll be in San Diego around lunch time. I REALLY want to stop traveling!

Plus, I've missed two days of woodworking. So it doesn't look like I'll be able to get the table I'm building to my clients before Christmas. That sucks.

The airlines certainly aren't what they used to be (remember free drink coupons? ). I don't care if I never go through an airport line or get on a commercial plane again! Just think how green I am, my carbon footprint requires baby shoes. And then there is those nasty (inefficient ) railroads that we finally got rid of & filled the roads with trucks and more planes in the sky. We're sooooo smart.
