Default Venting Dust collector

Do any of you vent your dust collector outside? I am wondering how much noise it makes.

Some years back I arranged a shop visit with a fellow that is very concerned about dust collection. He built his dust collectors into a closet (on the outside of his shop) and sound proofed them. Super effective. Quiet and clean in the shop and apparently reasonable enough that his neighbors didn't complain. He told us that he sometimes went out to the shop super early in the mornings (think dark) and it wasn't an issue. I couldn't do that here, but really wanted to. Of course you'll be exhausting conditioned air.
