Clamp racks

Hi All,

I've been hanging my clamps on the walls for, well always, but have noticed those clamp racks that roll around like this one from Rockler.

Anyone have any experience with these? Floor space vs. wall space?

Thanks for any and all thoughts,

Mike

I have that one and like it. I pretty much kept them laying on a workbench so this is a huge improvement. It seems pretty sturdy and holds a lot of clamps. Having it mobile helps a lot by being able to roll all my clamps over to my project. I thought about some sort of wall rack but this seems to work better and I don't have that much wall space due to large heavy tools parked up against them

I have all my clamps on the wall - I don't have the space for a mobile system. Also, I have so much crap on the floor (cutoffs, wires, etc.) that the mobile clam rack would probably keep getting stuck when I tried to move it.

What Pete said. I had the Grizzly version of that rack for a couple years in the shop. It was nice to be able to roll it to where you were doing your glueups but the floor has to be clean otherwise your struggling with it to get over cords, hoses and saw dust. Little pieces of gravel tracked in from the driveway stopped it dead in its tracks. Finally hung the clamps back up and gave away the cart.

I tend to take the project to a specific glue-up area where the clamps are hanging from walls. I think I'd also have the same problem as others mentioned, the cart could be clumsy loaded with clamps, trying to navigate it around a busy shop.
It would probably end up stationary pushed up against a wall.

I considered a cart, but realized the same problems the others pointed out: floor space and it takes more space than it is worth.

I have triangular ply pieces that come off the wall and have parallels on one rack. There was room behind my bench so I added some taller ply to allow them to hook onto the back of the bench. Both of these I love because the parallels take very little space for 8 clamps and the others take unused free space.

The rest are on the side of a wall-hung cabinet; again, it was free-space put to good use with just a piece of ply to get room for the clamps to hang. They are kinda scattered in this pic because I did a glue-up and realized I forgot to take down some clamps so the force of my cuss words disheveled the rack.

All my Bessey's are on a roll-around rack that I got from either Rockler or Woodcraft. Pipe clamps and older Jorgensens are hanging on the wall. Same with Quick-grip and wood hand clamps.

I occasionally will roll the free standing rack around, but usually just grab what I need and carry them to the glue-up area.

I like what Paul-Marcel did with his Bessey's on the plywood brackets. Definitely gives you a lot of clamps in one place. In my case, I have different lengths so I can't go that deep without having to move them around to get the length that I might want.

I made this for my old shop about nine years ago. Ive only just got it up in the new shop..It's similar to Paul-Marcel. Mine is fixed with a French cleat at the top, making it easy to lift off if needed. It can hold about 30 Bessey clamps http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/06/zaja9u5a.jpg

Here's another for my bow clamps
