Re: Road Show 2016

Attended my first Road Show today, in Fort Collins Colorado. It was held at Sears-Trostel, a really nice woodworking store / "lumberyard" (lots of exotics and an unbelievable selection of...

Re: to table or not to table

Thanks Paul. I decided to start simple. I'll be adding a vise, and some shelves and/or drawers for storage, over time. I've been meaning to build my planer cart for over a year, but our home...

Re: to table or not to table

Paul,

I might suggest that your friend check out "Paulk Workbench" with Google, and watch his YouTube videos. I was inspired by Ron Paulk's creative track saw bench design. (He uses Festool...

Re: Dust Control, and Recycling

I still have all the Heinlein's I bought as a kid in the 60s. Discovered him in 7th grade, the school library had several of his. Heinlein turned me on to sci-fi and reading in general.

Re: Dust Control, and Recycling

I was intrigued with the sign "Build Prisons on the Moon".. Heck, my final act here might be to break the law so I could get into space. At least the bus ride to the slammer would be pretty...

Re: New headphone stand

Well ... I thought I was getting a "one-of-a-kind" gift. :D

Upon further examination, perhaps mine is just the rare, square-base model ... yeah, that's it. The "limited" Christmas edition.

Re: New headphone stand

That looks really nice. It would go well with the giant wooden nose my wife bought me for Christmas. It is a perch for my reading glasses, since I am always misplacing them. :D

Just don't let her see "The Italian Job" -- might give her some new ideas on fun driving.

Re: A quality Company, Lee Valley

I love Lee Valley. I am expecting to receive yet another order from them since the cyber deals. Free shipping is an offer from them I just cannot pass up.

My wife and I are going on a Rhine...

Re: New furniture-building series debuts on US TV.

I recognized Jory in the show the other night. He is on one (maybe more) of the Festool brochures, and at least one of their promo videos.

I jsut watched the linked YouTube of his. He really...

Re: New furniture-building series debuts on US TV.

I am not sure whether I hated the judges more than or less than the obnoxious contestant that won. I would almost rather watch "Say Yes to the Dress" or "Project Runway" with my wife. ALMOST...

Re: My first 2015 project

The bowl gouge is a P&N (Patience & Nicholson, Australian). It was less than $40 from Lee Valley. (I just realized it is 12mm, which they also call 1/2", but the hole I bored is 15/32", since the...

Re: New furniture-building series debuts on US TV.

Dittos, just set DVR to record the whole series ... here's to hoping for something good. Somehow, I get that feeling it might be like the Iron Chef ... lots of drama. :)

Re: Cottonwood Coffee Table

Very nice. I had to Google "dutchmen" to learn more. Not knowing the terminology, I was expecting to see some European gentlemen helping you complete the build ...

Re: My first 2015 project

Yes, although the 3/8" bowl gouge looks awfully small. (Seems like I read somewhere that this was the size recommended for beginning bowl turners.)

Never one to be satisfied, I'm sure I'll buy...

Re: My first 2015 project

The walnut was just glued on, but I did glue side grain to end grain, just figuring that might help a bit. I am not really concerned about strength since the round gouge fit snugly into the bored...

My first 2015 project

I've been turning for a couple years -- mostly pens, and then other to various spindle turnings. I bought a bowl gouge last year, unhandled, so no bowl projects since I bought it. I/m determined to...

Re: Greene and Greene mirror frame

Wow, those miters are amazing, as is the mirror itself. I've actually done variations on the S-miter, but not intentionally. Really challenging to get the joints to eventually fit right ...

Like Leakyroof, a bit late myself. Happy New Year to everyone. I made 24 napkin rings this Christmas for gifts (6 sets of 4 to give away to family and friends). My wife sewed really nice napkins to...

Re: Cottonwood Coffee Table

That looks nice. Regarding the difficulty in milling, I'm not surprised. A friend of mine claims the Indian word for cottonwood means "sh!twood". :)

I'm assuming he was kidding, but we took one...

TTB,
Bummer about the missing tools. But on a positive note, cataract surgery changed my life dramatically, and I assume it will once you have your second eye done. I had one eye done in July, and...

That's a great "starter" lathe you got. :)

Very nice job on the bowls.
