Default Bigshots...it's all who you know.

My nine year old girls have been invited to participate in this program. Looks like a very cool opportunity. This looked like a good place to share.

That's cool Craig!

For those who are like me and have a low tolerance for video viewing on their creaky old computers, here is what Craig's girls are going to be handed,

and all they have to do is assemble the parts into a functional digital camera.

Hmmmmmm, I wonder what that little motor is for?

Craig, that is so seriously cool! I'm going to have to keep this from my daughter, as she'll want one. Now! I loved the video link you included. I'm going to have to share that with Jules - the guy I'm building the underwater robots with. He'll love the concept. Very very cool. Thanks for sharing. Hope your daughter has some fun with it.

Step-sisters...3 months apart, they've been together since they were 3. They will be part of the New York contingent, my wife works at Columbia.

And Peter, Delayna (mine) is a born scientist. We've been having a ball learning about and discussing your robots. Can't thank you enough. Truly fascinating.

That's really fun, Craig. Time to send her out here to check them out in real life!

I sent your link to my colleague Jules (the brains behind the robots), and he said, "I know this guy pretty well. They invited me a few years ago to be a keynote speaker at a meeting on imaging through scattering media. Nice!"

What a small world!

P.S. Have your daughter check out these threads:

My Dad was an alumni of Columbia - '37.

Those cameras are so cool; some assembly required. Oooh, OOOh!

I'm guessing that "little motor" is the dynamo to charge a capacitor.

Cool that it does 3D pics (with the special glasses). I'd love to try that feature!

Why am I not surprised that the camera guy from New York knows the robot guy from California. That's amazing.

According to the video, 4 cranks of the dynamo will provide enough power to take a picture if the battery dies.

The workshop is this Sat. for the girls. Found this link too.
