No, I had bought a replacement cartridge when I purchased the saw, so the saw has been running just fine. Swapping out the cartridge was a piece of cake -- of course I need to buy a new blade but I just put in a WWII that I had on my old benchtop saw that was kicking around, I was amazed with the cut quality of the "stock" blade that came with the SS contractor saw. Dr. Goss was on the Discovery Channel two nights ago demonstrating the SS. It was on Time Warp. He did the hot dog trick and then with the high speed camera's rolling, he stuck his finger in the blade. It was pretty cool to see how the mechanism worked at 2000 frames/sec. There's a hell of a lot of energy being transferred. Not a scratch on his finger. Made a believer outta those guys, for sure!

If you do not mind, how much are the cartridges? I love the concept of the saw and have from the very beginning but am leery of having something happen and not have a replacement cartridge readily available for whatever reason and then losing time. Absolutely a weak thought on my part but I am always trying to think ahead as to what else can slow me down as my back and neck do enough of that as it is. Lastly, at this point do you have any more thoughts on the pros and cons of this machine and if so I would love to hear them. Fred PS Nary a smiley to be seen. ![]()

[quote=FredWest;13010]Jay, I run the WWII on my Delta Contractor saw and absolutely love it. I would love to hear your comparison of it vs. the stock blade that came with your machine.
I think the stock blade was excellent, although I ran some cherry though it for a cabinet I am making for LOML (on delay right now still trying to get the other half started projects completed) I haven't run it on any sheet goods (and won't now, obviously unless I find that the replacement is cheaper than the WWII) If you do not mind, how much are the cartridges? I love the concept of the saw and have from the very beginning but am leery of having something happen and not have a replacement cartridge readily available for whatever reason and then losing time. Absolutely a weak thought on my part but I am always trying to think ahead as to what else can slow me down as my back and neck do enough of that as it is. The cartridge is currently listed on tool king for 69.99, the dado cartridge is 89.99 ( I don't have the dado cartridge......... yet?) Lastly, at this point do you have any more thoughts on the pros and cons of this machine and if so I would love to hear them. Please recognize that my prior saw was a DeWalt bench top (or job site saw I guess you would say, I had it for about 6 years. The SS is like driving a Mercedes after climbing out of a Ford Pinto. Solid, great fence, the stops are accurate to 1/10 of a degree according to my new Wixley Box thingy, I think the difference is just a bit of play in the crank mechanism. The table top is bigger and that is a great plus when compared to the DeWalt. Dust collection is pretty good, I'm thinking of enclosing the base of the saw to improve that a bit. The mobile base is outstanding, I probably won't be shoving it around a lot but if I want to the alternative is there. I put a Bench Dog router table extension on it, went together pretty well but I had to do a little work to mount the switch because the holes in the Bench Dog top weren't lined up to the switch mounting holes. Jay,
Thank you very much for the info. Can't wait to hear more about your thoughts on the WWII compared to the stock blade after you have used it more. Based upon my use I would think that your cuts with the Forrest will be absolutely spectacular. ![]() ![]() Good luck, Fred

Fred, I have a densitometer that I used for photography that I think I could convert to find out how dense PA people are. What part of Sawstop Don't you understand. It is hands down the best saw I have ever used. Sell those chisels and buy one.
I popped a cartridge by mistake. SS kindly replaced it and sent a new blade. I sent the old blade out and had it redone. If your good at working with one hand stick with what you are doing. "B" |

Fred, We bought one of the first Sawstops. Went on the waiting list and waited for three months. Well worth the wait. As an early buyer SS asked us if we would take calls from prospective buyers. One call was from an Indian who said "I weel bring a piece of wood and a hot dog to test it."
I don't think so. It's a jewel, buy it. Bob |
