Default Strange coloring in heart Black Walnut

While cutting parts for my next rockers today I found a good deal of one slab had coloring that looked like this, anyone got any idea what it is? The wood is well into the heart and I am sure it is not sap. The wood is solid, in no way soft or punky.

No clue, but hopefully it'll work nicely into your design as an added bonus.

My guess, based on the grain of the wood, is that your tree had a bend in it. When the planks were cut, some of the sapwood ended up in the flat face of a plank cut through the edge of a bend (or perhaps where a branch was forming).
