It's not a big deal for big companies to get the right tools and cutters in place to shape, sand or cut bamboo. Most of them either use diamond cutters (!) or a profile sander.
Don't get me wrong, I love that stuff, but I would never put a router to it...
BTW, today I was cutting a $700 bamboo CT (1.5" thick)for a table. The table top had to be cut into a slight ship shape. My first thought was to use a jig saw to do the rough cutting and then do the rest with the belt sander. After a couple of minutes fighting with the jig saw, I got my guide rail and TS 55 hooked up and with several cuts following the pencil line I was done in no time! Super clean cuts and there where only a couple of "edges" to be sanded of (as it was a curved shape).
Another thing I found difficult when it comes to working with bamboo, is the sanding. No issues with the festool orbital and CT mini, but to take of the first bit of material I like using my bosch belt sander and it doesn't matter what grid I'm using, after a short while the sander has to be taken apart as the dust (bamboo fibers) clogs everything inside!
Anyhow, good luck
