The one that wins is the one that takes the longest belt, has several contact wheels from very small diameter to at least 8 inch, various plattens and tool posts, is workable both vertically and horizontally, is easy and quick with belt change and tracking. And speed change is good too. That KMG one looks mighty good.....

John, before you order one, maybe it would be wise to check to see if you already have one? j/k...

I guess I deserve that one, but if I had one of those laying around I think I would have noticed it.

I any case, it'll have to wait, I'm saving up to pay the electrician.

The rotary platen attachment looks particularly useful (and ingenious) to me:

Here is a custom MAP (Multi Articulated Positioning) arm with turret tool rest for the KMG sold by Michael Kanter of Adam Michael Knives (looks like the KMG has a huge slippery slope of its own ):

They make some beautiful knives -- a little metal working, a little woodworking, great hobby.

Seeing that machine with the "rotary platten" (must be a mis-nomer as it more like a rotating base for providing different diameter contact wheels without too much adjusting) makes me want to get back into knife making.
Can you just get two machines and send one to me? How many knives would you take in exchange
That big diameter contact wheel is set up for grinding a nice hollow grind for a knife. Notice the way it has been balanced by a shallow counter bore.

.

So I wrote those guys at @ beaumont metalworks to see if they had a demo unit on the west coast, specifically LA,,,,,,, and they don't.

"Hi Roger, Thank you for thenote. We do not have distributors and sell directly from our shop here in Ohio."

Thanks again, Rob

.......that thing is almost as seductive as a JMP.

I thought the same thing - where's the platen, it must be extra???

The KMG grinders seem to have a loyal knife maker following as well as Adam Michael's add-on tool rest. What is your dream KMG attachment? - BladeForums.com

Joraft will probably be happy to strike an exchange deal for a Marcou plane.

I think that the first thing I might do is tear the new grinder down & give it a nice paint job -- bare metal just doesn't belong in a clean, nice workshop.
