Torx/Star are the best and are the future. It's a shame it took so long for Robertson/square to catch.
I wouldn't completely abandon Robertson though. As Rick pointed out in another related thread you can stick a Robertson screw on a non-magnetic driver and it will stay. Some Torx will too. |

Torx are the best. I've used a lot from Screw-products (Screw Products, Inc Stainless Steel, ACQ Compatible and Interior Multipurpose Use "Star Drive" Wood Screws, Composite Deck Screws, Decking Products & More!), GRK, and a couple of other manufacturers.
I use square drive screws for pocket-hole work, Phillips for drywall, and wouldn't touch a slot screw unless absolutely necessary. Regards, Dan. |

I sing the praises of GRK regularly
Square aint bad Sometimes I specifically want brass slots for projects. Darn hard to get anymore, unless you want to spend 60 cents a piece at Ace I went to McFeeleys to get asst packs and even they are selling them off as "dead inventory" that they will not be replacing. Certainly not popular. My 3 all time favorites though, GRK trimheads, GRK structural, and Fastcap cabinet screws with the enormous washer head.

FWIW:
Robertson are available in Europe but they are a rarity. Torx are my preference but if you can't get good straight on access to the screwhead - even with a festool drill and all its attachments , pozidrive gives you more flexibility - Wiha make special bits that allow you to drive a screw from an angle whilst reducing the risk of stripping the head. Of course in an ideal world you'll always have good access to the screw head.... The other thing for me is that when using large quantities of screws, Torx headed ones work out significantly more expensive over here than equivalent pozi ones. |
