Peter, you could send Onidea a photo of your crushed DD container and explain how poorly it worked for you. They should send you one of their new Systainer-like buckets to correct their mistake...

I did. Jason has contacted me and offered me a new bucket and lid for my DD. Very generous of him. I love good customer service!

Just to be clear -- I placed the 3/4" round mdf on the inside of the lid and another 1/4" piece on the outside of the lid.

The new model DD "systainer" style looks more substantial which it will certainly need to be since it is rectangular -- there is a reason most pressure vessels (and vacs) are cylindrical i.e. look at the weak link in our current DD's -- the flat lid & not the round bucket.

I saw that you had the 2 pieces of MDF on each side of the lid, Ron. Since I had a limited supply of scrap MDF I went for the single 3/4" piece (all I had) on the top. So far it works really well.

I'm hoping that the DD Systainer isn't too $$$...

I agree, the dust is in your vac not your shop. If the seal around the collection drum leaked then outside air came in and pushed the debris up the DD into the vac

Sorry Greg - I missed your post. I certainly did notice little piles of sawdust at the sander, but didn't think anything of it at the time. I also noticed that my lungs were really crapped up after that sanding. Not good. So probably a lot of it went into the vacuum, but there was certainly more floating around in the air too. Scary! How do people work without dust collection?!?

If outside air was entering the drum directly there wouldn't be much vacuum or air flow at the sander. I only meant that the dust that had been in the drum went into the vac rather than back out into the shop. I probably misunderstood you in the first place.

My fear is that with all the Festools & Feins etc out there,
we are still in the minority of people that use dust collection.

even people that have "dust collectors" have dust all over their shops. I was over at a friends shop Sunday for a few minutes and couldn't believe all the dust everywhere.
