Those are great pics, Fred! Congratulations. I'm so bummed that I'm not out there to share the joy with you. But you can be sure that Gillian and I will celebrate your wonderful acquisition tonight!

Congrats, Fred, I heard your screams all the way out here in California!

Some slight differences between the 2008 and 2009 models.

My unbiased opinion is that the 2008 is MUCH nicer.

Obviously not only are you biased but a bit touched in the head. It is so clearly obvious that mine is better by possibly a light year or even more.

The only difference I can see is that Fred's has a wooden button on the lever cap screw, and John's a better photographer. Is there something else? Fred's has (for now) less dog drool?

Default Side by side S20A's

Alright the pictures suck but too bad, live with it already. Obviously mine is the most amazingly good looking plane.

Pillar,

As of now I have found eight differences.

Fred . . . very nice, indeed. Congratulations! And I much prefer the nice black 2009 black phi logo to the green 2008 version.

I'm sure my own plane will be coming along in due course. But I can be patient. After all, everybody knows it just takes longer actually to ACHIEVE perfection than merely to approach it.

Dan,

You are of course correct that mine is SOOOOOOO much better than John's. However in your case the issue is that Philip was trying to match the beauty and majesty of mine but alas failed and so is trying to cover up the mistakes on yours.

In all seriousnessone of the things that I love about Philip's work is that he makes each and every plane distinct from all of the rest. For instance one of the things that is not quite easily seen between mine and John's is that the sides on his plane are just slightly higher as well as a little longer and then the curve in the front and the back is slightly different as well. The front knob alone has three differences, the knobs that control the mouth are different, the lever cap, the knob on the adjuster thread is also different. The lever cap itself is also different which I just noticed. It is incredible that these two planes that look so similar are actually so different.

Fred

Looks like the rod that holds the lever cap is a different diameter on your two planes. Or at least the end of the rod that comes through the plane body sides looks different. I noticed that the mouth-adjusting knobs are different, as is the blade adjuster (both knob and... something else?). Curious how hard it is to see how different the lever caps are. That's quite a difference. How much does yours weigh?
