Sassafras Lumber

My buddy with the mill has gotten me two large slabs of Sassafras. They came from a urban salvage operation. The tree was 160 yrs old and is not native to this area. My Question is has anyone ever made anything from Sassafras?

I've got a couple of pieces sitting in my wood stash. Haven't used it yet. Seems a bit on the soft side, but pretty wood all the same.

Well, Iíve used sassafras a few times to make root beer Poking

Seriously though, definitely havenít made anything with that wood, donít think Iíve ever seen it in any of my local lumber yards. Was interesting to do some quick reading on it.

Dave said his wife took a piece into the house and the whole place smelled like rootbeer.

This scent aspect of sassafras has me oddly intrigued.
