That's a clever application of the Bow Clamps.

I don't think that could work on a big glue up to be honest, say a dining table. That's when a flat glue up is needed and most appreciated.
The bow clamps are cool, and they'll get the job done, but I don't think they can live with the York clamps for that type of glue up.
Cheers!

I agree with you on that. Although, if you would first glue up a couple of smaller segments and then those bigger segments, it could work. But not if you have 20 pieces to line up.

That's right Eco, in a fix it could be done that way, but I wouldn't want that to be my "go to" solution for large glue-ups. It's too time consuming, and a lot of messing about with cauls, blocks and clamps. I like my glue-ups to go smoothly without any surprises
Cheers!

Hey Okami,
I may be missing it but I don't see the overall length of the rectangular tubing. Something like 1400mm?

It's too soon to answer that question.
I'm going to buy (at least the first sets) the clamping mechanisms from the U.K. instead of making them, then probably just drill the first tubing sets without a drill jig (better speed & accuracy if I make a jig) and then get them powder coated ($$?).
The last I checked, we don't have metric sizes available in rectangular tubing however I can get a close U.S. substitute.

I'll let you know how they work out & we'll go from there.

The only thing to remember about bowclamps is that they use only two clamps, which is usually much less clamping force than if you're clamping every 100-150mm. Not that you need a lot of force when you've jointed the boards as well as Okamisan but the glue manufacturers do recommend about 200 or 250 psi for lot's of different kinds of woodworking glues. (What's 200psi in kPa?)

Regards,

John

200psi = 1379 kPa
250psi = 1724 kPa
