Default Festool Compact Cleaning Set

I bought this set ( 456 763 ) a while ago after becoming frustrated trying to fit non-Festool , or at least non-European , vac attachments to the Festool hoses. I had held off for a long time because it just seemed like a lot of money for a plastic cleaning set. However if you factor in the value of a Systainer - I it is really not too bad.

Here is a pic of the set in the Sys - I . The set fits in the Sys - I , but it can be a tight fit if you don't place the items in carefully. It does not have a molded insert. It does have a foam piece in the bottom. Personally I think Festool should bump this up to a Systainer - II. Which is what I did. That makes it possible to add additional cleaning brushes and accessories in.

Pic of the set in a Systainer - II. I have room for extra cleaning brushes, a twelve foot 12ga extension cord, and a Plug-It cord.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the set layed out - three extension tubes , curved hand piece, upholstery brush , crevice tool, floor nozzle with three inserts.

The extensions total 37 1/2" when connected, with the hand piece added you get 49" length.

The crevice tool is 12" long.

The hand piece has a sliding suction let off opening.

Upholstery brush 4 3/4" wide , the brush insert is removeable.

The floor nozzle is 10 3/16" wide. The head swivels on the elbow. Next three pics show the tabs to swap inserts. They change very quickly.

Three swapable inserts-

1). Two row brush with spaces in the front row to allow dust and air flow between the bristles and a solid back row to catch everything.

2).Rubber squegee type insert for liquids.

3). Hard plastic carpet insert. This has sort of spiral groves to allow debri and air to flow in. It also makes it glide well over rough surfaces such as the "kerfed up" top on my cutting table. It doesn't catch in the saw cuts.

The swiveling elbow can be removed from the floor nozzle. Take off the snap around ring. The D27 hose fits , and the tubes also. But the tubes will partially block the suction because they extend into the open head space. Not sure if this is useful but you never know .........................

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A few comments-

None of the pieces will leave black marks on surfaces. I have had more than one bad experience with this from most other shop vac attachments. I went so far as to purposely try making marks with each piece on a variety of surfaces and could not. This alone ended up making the purchase worth it for clean up in customers homes.

The tubes fit together firmly and positively without getting jammed too tight. I have had some thaat needed to be pushed together so hard to make them hold that it was difficult to get them apart again.

For transport the fact that these tubes will fit in a Systainer is nice. Many other vac tubes are too long for a Systainer.

All the pieces will fit both the D27 and D36 hoses with the exception of the extension tubes. The tubes will only fit directly onto the D27 hose. They of course do fit the D36 when using the hand piece. This is a real benefit because I use both hose sizes in the shop. It is very nice to be able to pop an attachment onto whichever one is in use at the time.

I ended up liking this set a lot. Enough that I bought a second one. One set stays in the shop (but not in the Sys.) near the CT33. The other I put into a Sys - II and it stays attached to the Mini for site use. Even with the Sys - II on the Mini it is still short enough to carry comfortably.

Oh, and this may sound silly for a vac set , but it is good quality plastic. Though it is not anti-static.

All in all a good set.

I got a set last week thrown in with the used CT22 I bought.I think too that the set needs to come in a sys-II,just to tight in the sys-I.And yes the vac sucks-------real good.

I've got two compact sets--one for the shop and one for "upstairs".

I started on the road to two sets by wanting separate brush accessories for use in the house. Then I realized I needed an additional set of tubes so that I could reach cobwebs in high places--bingo, justified the compact set.

I keep the 20-amp to 15-amp mains adapter (North America only, I think) in the upstairs set--the shop has 20-amp outlets.

Oh, and when you upgrade the set's Systainer to a II--convert the now-unused Sys-I to a Box by ordering the insert, lid thingy, and little boxes.

I got mine with my ct22 in 2003, but mine came wit an extra nozzle (round with brushes). It's a pain to make it fit in the sys1 and evertime I have to clip another systainer onto it I think I should move the set into a sys2, but I always forget to do so... (I cheat a little most of the time, so there's a bit of tension on the lid, that's why other systainers don't fit easily on top).

I think I'll make a printout of how you have fitted the parts inside, so I can put them in just so... or just get a sys2 for it.

I added a few more pics and notes.

FrankJan , just get the Sys - II. Use the Sys - I for something else like Ned said. It is real nice to be able to add other items that get used with the vac into the cleaning set Systainer such as the Plug-It cord.

I was going to do that... but using your picture it fits perfectly, and the puzzling is kinda fun now to, before, I didn't have a clue how they should fit in there (I ducttaped the print to the lid now)

Thanks for posting the pictures

The extra part that used to come with the set is partn°440404 the left one in this picture, and it fits in the lower right corner.

When I was looking for a picture of the suction brush, I saw a few things that might come in handy, so maybe I'll get that bigger systainer afterall.

Someone that just bought a festool vac, should consider getting one of the sets that come with a 36mm hose instead of the compact set though, they come in a bigger systainer, that can hold the bigger hose aswell. And the bigger hose is a must when using the vac on an electric planer or with the OF1400.

Frank, that's the rout I decided on, I picked up the installers/tradesmen set a few years ago. I had a hard time deciding between the sets but in the end I really wanted the D36 AS hose.

I'm going to follow Seth's lead and post my review of the installers/tradesmen set shortly.

I'll second getting the bigger set with the AS hose. I bought the set with the non-AS, D36 hose. Bad choice. The non-AS hose zaps you regularly after some use and it gets badly coated with dust. IMO, you should always use the AS hose if at all feasible.

Regards,

Dan.
