I'd need to include the cost of material ruined by the blade deflection that was the norm from my Dewalt.

Yea, I learned the hard way that cheap tools can get expensive. My Carvex has so far done well what I needed, but so far haven't needed to cut many bevels. If that became a common need then I'd be seriously considering the Mafell. For me the Carvex tilt base is a solution in search of a problem and made regular use more difficult in the process.
