Default What else do I need??

I am ready to get a Kapex. I have my currrent saw on a Delta Universal stand with fold out rollers. I do like it. Is the mft3/k worth the money or should I stick with my Delta stand. I'll be getting a couple of crown stops, anything else nice to get with the Kapex? Is the 36mm or 59mm hose better for dust control?
I have the of1400, am thinking about the of1010 for use with lr32 kit when I get around to building kitchen cabs. Most peplelthat have both love them both, any thoughts?
I am going to be building my wife some misssion style furniture soon. I have, ct33 with boom arm, ts55, trion jigsaw, of1400, hl850, c12, ro 150,dts400, ets150 and domino. Am thinking about rs2e, another rail and various blades and sandpaper. I have a bonus I need to spend. Which clamps are your favorites and any thing else I should consider??
Thanks Tom

Hey Tom - for clamps I find these indispensable:

Festool clamping elements
Festool clamps (the metal L-shaped ones)
Jorgensen hold-down clamps
Lee Valley wonder dogs

If you don't have one, get an MFT/3 (the big one ... or two). I can't work without one.

I also can't live without my bandsaw. The Trion just can't come close to replacing it.

The MFT3/K is nice, but it is primarily just a table for the saw. If you have an existing table to use, then you might be better off sticking with what you have. I don't know what the Delta stand is like, but unless it is not stable, or won't hold the saw well, it should be fine. (I do have the MFT3/K and am happy with it.)

The bed extensions (crown stops kit) are great and give you more options for clamping the workpiece. I wish I had realized this sooner as I was doing a project with my 9 year old son, and had to stop because the cuts were too dangerous for him without additional clamping. I didn't realize that the bed extensions would give me the clamping I needed to make this safe for my son.

The Kapex will take a 27 mm or 36 mm hose, with the 36 mm being the preferred size. I am not familiar with the idea of using a larger hose, but it would require some sort of adapter to work.

Hi,

On the routers- I have the OF1400 and I feel that it is the best all purpose one. I don't have the Hole Drilling set, but I have checked it out. The newer version will accept either 1400 or 1010. The 1400 attaches with screws in pre-drilled holes. The 1010 used to attach with a couple of hold down things that always look like an after thought to me. I am not sure if it still attached that way or not.
I know from reading other posts about the HD set that the 1400 works fine with it. I am thinking that unless you want to keep one router mounted and one free while you are set up for hole drilling , that you don't need the 1010.
The Kapex DC is known to be improved with the D36 hose. And if you don't have the D36 hose it is absolutely worth getting for the OF 1400 router. On the router it is a huge DC improvement.

If you like your current stand stick with it until you decide it isnt doing what you need. I like the sawhelper quite a bit and we sell it but I still wouldn't sales pitch it to you unless you didnt already have one. The MFT3/Kapex is handy but it seems to me a chunk of change for just a stand.
If you need portability, there's other options, and if you don't need portability, I'd rather build what I need any day. Then if it doesnt do what I need I can only gripe at myself, and go fix it.
Other tools . . . the RS2E is a pretty sweet sander I'll admit. I don't get it out for just anything. It has to be something large and flat.
I would say you definately want a D36 hose attached to the saw and better yet if you can more or less dedicate a 22 or 33 to it. I've tried the 27 hose and it pulls some but the difference in suction between that and the 36 is noteworthy.
On clamps, the screw types are functional but I vastly prefer the one hand operation of the quick clamps with the green pads. They cost twice as much but thats irrelevant to me. I just don't ever use the other ones.

If you don't want to spend the money on the D36 hose or don't want to wait for one, the hose they sell at HD and L for their vacs is the same size and length without the antistatic stuff and lots cheaper. I have one piggybacked with my D27 on my boom arm and it works great. The blue does clash though .

Not trying to knock the green but if you are going to dedicate a vac to the Kapex. IMO the perfect fit is the Fein turboI. It pulls 116cfm and is super light and easy to transport. IMO dedicating a CT22 or 33 to the kapex is a waste. You dont need the variable suction. Also going with a midi or mini is not the best option either because they are very weak at 99 cfm and cannot be fitted with hepa filters.

I own a CT22, fein truboIII and turboI. By far the CT is my favorite but the TurboI is perfect for the Kapex.

Hi,

If you are looking for the posts from this thread that were on the Kapex stand. I broke them off and used them to start a new thread in Festool Tools Kapex Stand. What are the options? since I had high jacked AKToms topic. The discussion had diverted away from Tom's more general question, and Kapex stands certainly seems like something that could have a lot of specific info. I didn't want it to get lost.
