I have updated with an additional way to get the pin started with less chance of damage. See the bottom of this post for the added pics and description. I left the original as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why would you want to remove the hinge pins? Replacing a damaged lid is the obvious, but there are some other reasons such as- the compartment lid ( Systainer with compartment lid. ) currently only comes on the Systainer - II but can swapped to fit any Systainer I _ IV. In my case I wanted to change the Systainer size and had tool holders more or less permenantly attached to the lid. Since the hinge pins cannot just be pushed out easily I found a way to do it with little or no damage most of the time. I removed six and damaged one but it was still usable. I would recommend getting a couple spares before you do this just in case. First rotate the pin so that the little tabs are at the top and bottom. Next with pliers squeeze the end enough to get the tabs to pass through the hole. Go easy if you use too much pressure it will crush the pin. You have to grab about half way along the tab in order to leave space at the nose of the pliers to push the pin out. It won't go all the way like this, it gets stuck between the plastic layers. After it is protruding outside the Systainer use a claw hammer to pull the rest of the way Get the claw seated well then gradually pry harder until it comes out. It will shoot out with a snap so be ready to catch it or find it. ![]() ![]() They can be just pushed back in , stubborn ones will go with a sharp smack from a dead blow hammer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW STUFF- Use long nose pliers to push/pry the pin towards the outside by placing them between the two walls that the pin goes through. For some pins I was able to get them all the way out this way, for others I needed the hammer to finish the job. Seth
