Default Festool lamp

Not really a review - and I know that if there is no picture it doesn't exist - but I just wanted to give a vote for the new lamp that fits onto the festool drills. If, like most of the competition they had one built in it would be better, but as they don't it has already saved me quite a lot of time as I have just been installing some chocolate brown shelving for a client and couldn't see what I was doing without the lamp. The downside is that it only works with the centrotec chuck. The upside is it can double as a head-lamp (not sure if that is the right technical term.)

Richard

Thanks for this, Richard. I'd been thinking of getting one of those (Gillian really wants one!) - it's nice to know it's worth it.

(And yes, it's a headlamp.)

It works great... the fact that it takes a single aaa battery is also a plus. Being able to turn it off and on is good and bad. If you notice most drills with a light feature only allow the light to be on when you're pulling the trigger. So how do you get aligned on the screw, etc.? You should be able to bump the trigger, have it come on and then go off in like 15 seconds of no use. oh well... The Festool light is very nice and highly recommended...

I have a light on my Makita impact driver. It is very nice to have in a lot of situations. I may buy one of Festool lights for my C12, but I'd rather have one built in like the Makita's because you don't have to futz with it. It's always there.

Regards,

Dan.

I really like the implementation of the ledlight in the makita li-ion drills. They go on with a light squeeze of the trigger (even before the drill starts turning at all), and it stays on for a while after you let go of the trigger. (I have never timed it, but it would be less than 15 seconds I guess)

Sometimes you have to wonder about the Festool engineers. There were many companies that had built in lights before the T15 was designed. By offering the add-on light they obviously realized the light is a nice feature. So why wasn't it included originally? Trying to keep it cost competitive? The T15 could be (close to) perfect with a built in light that works with all chucks.
My cheap Bosch 12V drill has a nice built in light that is very handy. I wouldn't give up my T15 but what were those engineers thinking?!?
