Cool

I see You will be using the "3 way mitre". I've done it with the Domino, came out well. I think there's a thread on here somewhere about it. I know Terry Fogarty has experience with this joint, combined with the domino.

How's the top sitting in there, in a rebate? Can seasonal movement happen (but You are in California, the place where wood doesn't move) . Is the top solid wood?

I'm looking forward to seeing this Eiji
Cheers!

Yep great fun the 3-way cabinets

This is a Blackheart Sassafras Low-line cabinet I made a few years back. The second pic shows the top (hand veneered ply) rebated in, and the third pic shows a small model of how I done it

Hope this helps for you to get ideas for your side table

Beautiful stuff, Terry. Eiji, I love your table idea - I think it would be very striking. I had the same thought as Okami, that the table top might move and push the frame apart. On the other hand, I made a coffee table based on a structurally similar design. 20 years ago. It still sits in the dining room, and I've had no problems with the inset top.

On the other hand, I live in SoCal. But I built it in Oregon...

.

Terry,

Very nice work!
You got me thinking towards 3-way miters!

Peter,

So,
Your submarine was moored of the coast of Oregon long enough for you to make a coffee table?

Close, Roger: I did my postdoc at Oregon State University (go Beavs!). Same place John Economaki did began his Masters. They have a really nice craft center there (unlike UCSD).
